DNA Study - McCullochs in Galloway

Looking for Galloway men with surname MACCULLOCH or variants thereof, interested in genealogical DNA testing. We have several families connected by Y-DNA, looking for our Scottish origins. Our genealogical Y-DNA (male DNA) test results point to possible origins in Galloway. My MCCULLOUGH ancestors are believed to have emigrated from Ulster to the US around 1780. No records have been found to date to show where they lived in Ulster, or where they lived in Scotland before Ulster. Common given names were Alexander, John, Benjamin and William.

Our research group has MCCULLOUGHs / MCCULLOCHs divided into two DNA groups - I and R.

DNA test results indicate that my MCCULLOCHs may be related to GILLESPIE, MCWHORTER, HENRY and FERGUSON families. My Y-DNA type is I2b1a1, which is rare and thought to be specific to southwestern Scotland, particularly Galloway, and might be a remnant of the Pre-Roman Briton or Pict population.

The R type DNA is thought to be Celtic by way of the northern German plain or from southern Scandinavia.

The URL for the McCollough (and all variant spellings) DNA data page is:
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/mccollough/results?raw=1
a log-in is required, but is free.

Clifton Wayne McCullough
Sugar Land, TX USA

Forum: Genealogy
